Indiana University alumni once again will launch a book drive to benefit organizations in Northwest Indiana beginning March 26 and ending April 9 as part of IU Cares Month activities throughout the state. Individuals may deposit gently-used books at 13 Strack and Van Til supermarkets and 28 Centier Banks in Lake and Porter County.

In early April, the IU Alumni Association Lakeshore Region Chapter, the IU Northwest Alumni Association, the Neal-Marshall Club of Northwest Indiana, and the IU Northwest Student Alumni Association will come together at IU Northwest to sort through the books and box them for distribution. Over the past four years, more than 23,000 books have been collected as a result of this effort. Last year, the alumni groups distributed books to 19 organizations in Lake and Porter counties, including charter schools, boys and girls clubs, area YMCA’s, shelters and day care centers.

Area organizations that would be interested in receiving some of the books collected through IU Cares may contact IU Northwest Alumni Relations Director Paulette LaFata-Johnson at (219) 980-6769. For more information on IU Cares Month, visit the Web at http://alumni.indiana.edu/iucares/.
