Entering its fourth season as an Indiana University Northwest tradition, Homecoming has become one of the most anticipated events on campus. More than 400 campus and community members are expected to fill the Savannah Center Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 24, for the annual men’s and women’s basketball homecoming games and festivities planned by the IU Northwest Office of Student Life and Athletics.

The Lady RedHawks will take on the women of Andrews University out of Berrien Springs, Mich. at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m., in which the RedHawks will also take on their counterparts from Andrews. The games will be played in the Savannah Center Gymnasium.

Ticket prices per person are as follows:

Students and military personnel and their families: Game only – free; Game plus food - $5

General Public (Adults): Game only - $5; Game plus food - $10

General Public (Children 12 and under): Game only - $3; Game plus food - $5

Children under five: Game only – free; Game plus food - $5

Tickets may be purchased at the game or in advance from the Office of Student Life and Athletics (Savannah Center, Room 217). In advance of the game, students may purchase an unlimited number of game/food tickets for $5.

As special recognition for the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces, all military personnel dressed in fatigues and their families will be granted free admission to the games.  A Color Guard Presentation will be a part of the surrounding activities in the gym.

The Lady RedHawks boast two Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championships and two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Tournament qualifying titles. The team is led by two-time A.I.I. Coach of the Year Ryan Shelton and three-time All-American player Sharon Houston.

The Men’s Basketball program is led by Head Coach and Gary native Jason Hawkins. Currently in his first year at IU Northwest, Coach Hawkins brings National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) D-I and D-III experiences as well as NAIA head coaching experience.

Now in its first year as an NAIA varsity sport, the Co-ed Cheer Squad will perform its award-winning routines, complete with aerobatic stunts, tumbling, dance, and cheering. Coached by Taria Taylor and Latoya Edwards, the squad has already earned a trip to the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.

A DJ, games and airbrush tattoos will also contribute to the high energy of the event. In addition, Gary Weed and Seed will be on hand to promote their Boys and Girls Club programs for area youth.

The Homecoming basketball games are open to the greater Northwest Indiana community. Seating for these events is limited; please arrive early.

The Savannah Center is located on the northeast corner of campus at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary. Due to construction at the intersection of 33rd Avenue and Broadway, visitors may have to reroute to 35th Avenue and travel west to Jefferson Street, and then turn north on Jefferson to reach the main campus parking lots at 33rd Avenue just west of Broadway. Detour and event parking signs will be posted.
