The Indiana University Northwest School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), part of the College of Health and Human Services, will host its annual Criminal Justice Week beginning Monday, Oct. 17.

Events include a program for participants to solve a mock murder, a pre-law panel discussion, the always-popular Career Day, and lively discussions focused on sentencing policy and offender re-entry programs.

Criminal Justice Week will kick-off with attendees overseeing a mock crime scene to solve a murder mystery. The interactive event at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 17, will be led by SPEA lecturers Joseph Guzik and John Tsolakos. Join in the fun in the Dunes Medical/Professional building, room 2158.

Interested in law school? Here’s your chance to learn more by attending a pre-law panel at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask panelists a host of questions; from law school requirements, to how to apply, and the truth about law school. The facilitator will be Dan Tsataros, SPEA visiting lecturer and will take place in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium (located in the Savannah Center).

The annual Criminal Justice Career Day will take place from 12 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the Moraine Student Center. Representatives from numerous law-enforcement agencies and related organizations will be on hand to discuss careers and opportunities. SPEA representatives will also discuss academic programs with prospective students. Facilitators of the event include Sandra Hall Smith, Assistant to the Dean for the SPEA Graduate Program and Outreach and Jacqueline Huey, Ph.D., SPEA Learning Services Outreach Coordinator.

Following at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, join in a lively discussion on sentencing policy facilitated by Joseph Ferrandino, Ph.D., SPEA Assistant Professor. The event will take place in the Dunes Medical/Professional building (room 2080).

The week will come to a close with a presentation by Monica Solinas-Saunders, Ph.D., SPEA Assistant Professor, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 in the Dunes Medical/Professional building (room 2158). The discussion, “A brand new resolution for a new beginning: Looking for jobs after a criminal conviction,” will focus on the issue of unemployment among ex-offenders.
