American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

The Indiana University Northwest Student Alumni Association is recruiting participants to join its team in the upcoming American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk, scheduled for 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9 at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville. Registration begins at 12 p.m.

Since the walk began in 1993, nearly 7 million walkers have joined the American Cancer Society in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer by donating more than $400 million for the fight against breast cancer. Last year alone, nearly 800,000 participants nationwide collected more than $60 million in an effort to save lives.

The Student Alumni Association encourages all students, staff, faculty and all IU alumni to join the IU Northwest team. To join, stop in the Alumni Relations Office in Sycamore Hall, room 218, or visit In the “Find a Team” box, type in “alumni” to find “IUN Student Alumni Association and Friends.”

The Student Alumni Association will be staffing a table in the Moraine Student Center to promote the walk from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3 and 11 a.m.  to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6. Individuals may register to walk or simply make a donation. Honor or memorial cards will also be sold for $2 to recognize those touched by breast cancer.
