The 15th Annual Indiana University Alumni Association (IUAA) Blood Donor Challenge is gearing up and IU Northwest student organizations are mobilizing in an attempt to recruit the most donors.

The following groups are encouraging individuals to give blood in the Moraine Student Center, located on the north end of the IU Northwest campus on the following dates:

Student Nurses Association:  12 to 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 17

Student Alumni Association:  9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18

IU Northwest and Lakeshore Region Chapter of IUAA:  2:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25

The American Red Cross emphasizes that blood cannot be manufactured, it can only come from generous donors. More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. One donation can save the lives of three people.

To be eligible to donate blood, donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. All donors must bring a donor card or positive form of identification to the blood drive.

To make an appointment, donors may register online at and enter IUN as the sponsor code. Appointments and information can also be obtained from the IU Northwest Office of Alumni Relations at (219) 980-6769 or Or, contact the School of Nursing at (219) 980-6600. Information can also be found on the IU Northwest Alumni Facebook page.
