Indiana University Northwest, in conjunction with IU South Bend, recently announced Jeff Johnston as the interim registrar at IU Northwest. He will undertake his newly designated responsibilities in conjunction with his current position as IU South Bend’s registrar. The concept of a co-registrar is relatively new, but in the spirit of a more effective collaboration between campuses.

The change in leadership comes after Jo Anne Bowen’s retirement from Indiana University after 37 years of service, including the past four years as registrar for IU Northwest.

Johnston’s interim position at IU Northwest is effective Sept. 1, and will continue through March 1, 2012. Johnston will split his time evenly between IU Northwest and IU South Bend, while serving the needs of both campuses.

“I believe this represents a great professional opportunity for Jeff, as he will significantly expand his responsibilities through this dual appointment,” said David Malik, Ph.D., Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at IU Northwest. “While at the same time, I’d like to recognize and thank Jo Anne for her service, dedication and contribution to the IU Northwest campus, and specifically to its students, and for her nearly four decades of service to Indiana University.”

IU Northwest will explore the efficacy of this arrangement, and determine the role of a permanent registrar at a future date.
