Indiana University Northwest’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) will host the inaugural Police and Fire Individual and Team Challenge as part of the Trail Run Xtreme 12K scheduled for 9 a.m., Monday, May 30 at Portage Imagination Glen Park.

Police officers and firefighters can participate in the rugged 12K course as an individual, or as a team with two or more runners. IU Northwest will recognize the top three individuals and teams.

The course consists of traversing hills, log jumps, creek crossings, and mountain bike trails. Runners are advised they will get wet and muddy, and shoes have been lost on the course.

All police/fire participants must pre-register by Friday, May 27 by contacting Jeff Emmons at The cost to participate is $25.

Race day check-in is from 7 until 8:30 a.m. Imagination Glen Park is located at 2275 McCool Rd. in Portage.

The race will benefit Gabriel’s Horn, a local non-profit shelter that provides emergency housing assistance to individuals or families in times of economic hardships.
