Indiana University Northwest will thank its supporters and celebrate 25 years of scholarship at the Annual IU Northwest Gala to be held Thursday, May 19 at Avalon Manor in Merrillville. The evening, filled with camaraderie, great food, spirits and desserts, will start at 6 p.m.

The special guests for this year’s event include IU President Michael McRobbie, IU Northwest Chancellor William Lowe, and donors Marisa and Taylor Kendra.

Marisa, a recent graduate of IU Northwest, will be joined by her sister Taylor, who plans to graduate from IU Northwest in May. In the spirit of philanthropy and scholarship, the two have recently set up a $10,000 endowed scholarship, of which $500 will be awarded to a deserving psychology student each academic year.

The RedHawk spirit runs deep in the Kendra family; their father is also a graduate of IU Northwest.

This is the Kendra sisters’ second endowed scholarship, their first being with their secondary education alma mater: Andrean High School in Merrillville.

Gala guests will enjoy a memorable evening focused on the gift of scholarship over an impressive spread of appetizers, complete with a carving station and a dessert bar.

IU Northwest welcomes all friends of the university to enjoy this eagerly anticipated event.

Reservations are $125 each, and proceeds will be used to support scholarships. The university asks that all RSVPs be made by May 6 by calling (219) 980-6801 or emailing

The Avalon Manor is located at 3550 East Highway 30 in Merrillville. For more information, visit
