On Tuesday, April 26, the Campus Council on Diversity (CCD), on behalf of the Indiana University Northwest Office of Diversity Programming, will host another “Shattering the Silences” discussion forum where this semester’s topic will be, “Diversity: It’s not just a Black & White issue.”  The discussion will address the connotations associated with the word, “diversity” with one of the sub-topics being the sensitive issue of race relations on campus among students, faculty and staff.

The educational and thought-provoking event will take place on campus at 2:30 p.m. in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium.

The open discussion forum will be moderated by Alan Roger Currie, program coordinator for the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) Program.  There will be a diverse group of six to eight panelists representing both genders, different ethnicities, different age groups and various geographical locations throughout Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton and Porter counties.  Members of the audience will also be afforded the opportunity to ask the panelists questions and express their own opinions.

Northwest Indiana community members and leaders, as well as IU Northwest students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the free discussion. Light refreshments will be served following the event.

The CCD sponsors a “Shattering the Silences” event once each semester, and the programs are designed to identify topics about sensitive issues and provide a forum where the topic can be discussed in a provocative but objective and intelligent manner.

The Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium is located in the Savannah Center on the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary.
