The Indiana University Northwest Office of Student Life and Athletics announced today that it would pursue a coaching search for its NAIA Division II men’s basketball program, after determining that head coach Shawn Chism would not return to lead the team for the 2011-12 season. Student Life and Athletics Director Charles Gary, Ph.D., said Chism was informed this week of the university’s decision to take the program in a different direction.

“We appreciate Shawn’s efforts on behalf of our program,” Gary said. “We’re just looking for a different perspective for the team moving forward. I wish Coach Chism the best of luck in his coaching career.”

Chism led the RedHawks to an 11-19 record last season after succeeding former IU Northwest coach Pete Trgovich, who had stepped down after three years at the helm.

Gary said the search for a new coach would begin this week and that he hoped to have someone in place by early April to handle recruiting and preparation for next season.
