The Office of Student Life and Athletics has planned a spirited week of activities in honor of Indiana University Northwest’s third annual Homecoming Week.

The fun-filled week will kick-off with a Super Bowl party and flag football championship on Sunday, Feb. 6 in the lounge of the Moraine Student Center. Six big screen televisions, along with pizza, hamburgers, chicken, ribs and beverages, will help all to cheer on their favored football team. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased from the Office of Student Life and Athletics (Savannah Center, Room 217). The event will start at 3 p.m., and come to a close around 10 p.m.

Another tasty event occurring during Homecoming Week will be the ‘Taste of Soul.’ This cultural event, taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m., will allow attendees to receive free tickets for a sampling of several food items, including: jerk chicken; rib tips; catfish nuggets; dirty rice; cabbage; black-eyed peas; banana pudding; and peach cobbler.

The Michael Turner Band will also play during the Taste of Soul event. Turner started his musical career during his sophomore year at Chicago Vocational High School. He continued his musical studies at Grambling State University where he performed in the Tiger Marching Band and Jazz Band.

The central event of Homecoming Week is always the annual men’s and women’s basketball games. The games are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 10; the Lady RedHawks will take on the women of Moody Bible Institute at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. (against the men’s Moody Bible Institute team). The game will be played in the Savannah Center. Tickets are $5 for students, and $10 for the general public. The cost of the ticket includes food, a drink, and admission to the game. The night will be full of games, prizes and school spirit. Tickets can be purchased at the game, or in advance from the Office of Student Life and Athletics (Savannah Center, Room 217).

The Homecoming Week will come to a close on Friday, Feb. 11 with the Homecoming Dance. The festivities will start at 6 p.m. in the lounge of the Moraine Student Center, and close by 10 p.m.

The ‘Taste of Soul’ event and the Homecoming basketball games are open to the greater Northwest Indiana community. Seating for these events is limited; please arrive early.

The Moraine Student Center and the Savannah Center are located on the northeast corner of campus at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary.
