Donations put teeth in dental program

The Indiana University Northwest Dental Clinic is accepting patient appointments for community members interested in receiving oral exams, x-rays and other basic dental services from faculty-supervised students at reduced cost.

The IU Northwest Dental Education Program, part of the College of Health and Human Services, prepares dental assistant and dental hygiene students for the professional world by providing them with hands-on training and experience, while also improving the health and hygiene of Northwest Indiana residents.

The IU Northwest Dental Clinic provides diagnostic and preventative dental care, including oral examinations, dental cleaning, fluoride treatments, x-rays, dental sealants, oral hygiene instruction, and referrals.

Services range in price, with the cost of a cleaning starting at $51; a cleaning with four mouth x-rays costs $68; and a cleaning with x-rays of the full mouth is $81.

Currently enrolled college students attending any school will receive services at half price with a valid student I.D. and proof of enrollment. Senior citizens over the age of 60 will receive a service discount of 25 percent.

No insurance is accepted or processed; a code will be provided for those wishing to submit their own claim to their health insurance provider.
