IU Northwest in the News: CBS 2 Chicago airs feature on med school's Jan. 15 memorial service for anatomical donors

Family members, medical students pay respect to donors' memories and generosity

On Jan. 15, CBS 2 Chicago aired a feature report on this year's annual memorial service held by the IU School of Medicine - Northwest in honor of the anatomical donors who figured so prominently in the education of first-year medical students on the IU Northwest campus.

The service has become a solemn tradition for the medical school's Northwest campus. This year, a record number of family members came out to join the medical students in honoring the people who donated their bodies to medical education and therefore became the students' first patients ... and their best teachers.

CBS 2 reporter Pamela Jones attended this year's service and interviewed several of the family members whose loved ones were memorialized for their generosity and spirit of giving. Her story and video clip can be found at the right under Related Links.
