The Indiana University Northwest History Club will host a pep rally and book signing in the Savannah Center on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 5 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., in advance of the Lady RedHawks' season opener at 7 p.m. in Savannah Gymnasium. IU Northwest Professor Emeritus James Lane, Ph.D., will sign copies of the 40th edition of his regional history periodical, "Steel Shavings," during the event.
The local band Jimbo's Jammers will provide musical entertainment, and dancing is encouraged. The IU Northwest cheerleading squad will also be on hand. The Savannah Gallery for Contemporary Art and the IU Northwest Book Store will also be open.
Lane, who retired from teaching at IU Northwest two years ago, has published numerous volumes of history on the Calumet Region. His latest publication is titled "Retirement Journal."
The Lady RedHawks will open their highly anticipated 2009-10 season against Grace College on Tuesday. The team set a school record last year for most wins in a season and qualified for post-season play for the first time ever.
