The Indiana University Northwest Lady RedHawk basketball team will take the floor Tuesday, Nov. 3, in a season opener against Grace College. The game begins at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Gymnasium.
The 2008-09 season was the most successful in the team's history. The Lady RedHawks set a new record for season victories and qualified for post-season play in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, where they also won a first-round game.
A strong mix of returning players and new recruits have positioned the team for another exciting season. In addition to returning 6-foot-4 sophomore forward and USCAA All-American Sharon Houston (Merrillville), the Lady RedHawks bring back eight players from last year’s team, including: sophomores Juliette Keller (Kouts), Nina Wills (Bishop Noll), Ashley Michalski (Lake Central), and Kym Daniels (Hammond Morton); juniors Jenelle Kapelinski (Lake Central), Erica Baran (Hammond Morton), and Hannah Cohen (Lake Central); and senior Jessica Jenkins (Knox).
Joining them is a strong recruiting class put together by head coach Ryan Shelton. It includes Megan Leal and Justine Jones, both Calumet grads; Vicki Campos (Hammond Clark); Amanda Pennington (River Forest); and 6-foot-4 Gary West Side product Ish Sha Terry.
