Fusion of the Arts 2009 exhibit features local artists and multiple styles

Exhibit at Dubois Library runs through Oct. 20; awards to be presented Oct. 23 at Fourth Annual Region Arts Summit at IU Northwest

The Indiana University Northwest Center for Regional Excellence (CRE), in partnership with the IU Northwest Gallery for Contemporary Art, South Shore Arts, and Wesson Art Gallery of the Dubois Library, are presenting Fusion of the Arts 2009, an exhibit featuring the work of 28 area artists that will run through Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Dubois Library is located at 1835 Broadway in Gary, Ind. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Fusion of the Arts 2009 will formally conclude on Friday, Oct. 23, at IU Northwest with a reception and award ceremony held in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Regional Arts Summit. The artwork will be moved from the Dubois Library to IU Northwest prior to the awards reception, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Moraine Student Center. The Summit is sponsored by the CRE, South Shore Arts, the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Summit provides members of the campus community with an opportunity to engage with the arts community in Northwest Indiana.

The Fusion of the Arts exhibit includes works in multiple mediums, ranging from colored photography, etching, oil and sand on canvas, mixed media, found objects, charcoal, digital photography, ceramic, bronze and wood sculpture, and watercolor. This is the second year for the Fusion of the Arts juried show. Fusion of the Arts was created as a way for the community and Summit participants to experience the art of the Northwest Indiana region.
