Spots still available for IU Northwest county fair volunteers

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni encouraged to share their knowledge of IU Northwest with prospective students at county fairs

It's almost time for the 2009 County Fairs!

Once again, the Office of University Relations is looking for volunteers to fill out this year's IU Northwest booth schedule at the Porter County and Lake County Fairs. Volunteers will receive free fair passes where needed and free IU Northwest t-shirts!

For IU Northwest students, this is a great opportunity to spend a few hours talking to other prospective students about the many great programs and activities the university has to offer, while also having fun at the fair.

For faculty and staff, volunteering at the fair is a terrific way to connect with prospective students, boost enrollment for specific programs, and communicate the university’s positive image and role in the community. Thousands of people attend both fairs every day, including many high school students, their parents, and also non-traditional students.

For alumni, volunteering at the county fairs is a way to give back to their alma mater by telling prospective students about their positive experiences at IU Northwest, and about the professional success they have enjoyed since earning their degrees.

For the Porter County Fair, the following dates have volunteer slots available: Saturday, July 25, (after 4 p.m.); Friday, July 31; and Sunday, Aug. 2

For the Lake County Fair, the following dates have volunteer slots remaining: Saturday, Aug. 8; Monday, Aug. 10; and Sunday, Aug. 16

For more information, or to volunteer, contact Special Events Coordinator Linda Sharma in the Office of University Relations at (219) 980-6803, or email her at
