Students from both campuses encouraged to assist in Earth Day project

On Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., the Indiana University Northwest/Ivy Tech Community College Gary chapter of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) will host a cleanup project along 35th Avenue between Jefferson Street and Martin Luther King Drive. Students from both campuses are encouraged to sign up for one or more of three shifts throughout the day and help contribute to a cleaner and more attractive community.

Volunteers may work one or more of three shifts: 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. SAAB will provide box lunches and water to volunteers from 10:50 a.m. until 11:10 a.m. and from 1:50 p.m. until 2:10 p.m.

SAAB is also accepting donations of gloves, garbage bags and other necessary materials for the cleanup project. For more information, or to volunteer for a shift, contact either James Wallace at, or Darin Dunham at, for more details. Or, contact the SAAB Office at IU Northwest at (219) 980-6738.

SAAB is an organization that brings together college students of color with their peers and mentors to provide them with knowledge, insight, assistance, and encouragement as they work toward personal, academic and professional goals. The IU Northwest/Ivy Tech SAAB chapter is the only dual chapter out of approximately 180 SAAB chapters nationwide.
