Indiana University Northwest forward and Merrillville High School graduate Sharon Houston was named a United States Collegiate Athletic Association 1st-Team All-American this week, in recognition of her outstanding season for the Lady RedHawks basketball team.
In her first season at IU Northwest, the 6-foot, 3-inch Houston led the nation in scoring (24.8 p.p.g.), rebounds (15.7) and blocks (5.6). She also ranked first in the USCAA in double-doubles with 29 and sixth in field-goal percentage at 53.7.
Houston was named USCAA Player of the Week or Co-Player of the Week four times during the season.
