Lady RedHawks guard Juliette Keller named USCAA National Co-Player of the Week

Freshman sets school record with seven treys in 100-52 homecoming win over Kuyper College

Indiana University Northwest announced Tuesday that freshman guard Juliette Keller, of Kouts, was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s Co-Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 9. Keller set a school record for three-point shooting during the Lady RedHawks’ 100-52 victory over Kuyper College in the IU Northwest homecoming game on Feb. 13, hitting seven of 11 attempts for 21 points. Keller also contributed nine assists, six rebounds and four steals in the victory.

This is the second time this season that the 5-foot, 7-inch Keller has been honored for her outstanding play. In January, the NAIA Association of Independent Institutions named Keller the Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 26. She averaged 13 points and 3.5 rebounds over two games, and hit six three-pointers in a pair of wins over Moody Bible Institute and Mt. Mary College.

At the university’s homecoming celebration last Friday, Keller was honored for her achievements this season, along with freshman forward and Merrillville High School grad Sharon Houston, who has earned multiple Player of the Week honors this season. University officials also formally recognized the men’s basketball team for its once-in-a-lifetime, 74-73 upset victory over NCAA D-I Eastern Kentucky University on Dec. 22.

In the second half of Friday’s homecoming doubleheader, the RedHawks defeated Kuyper College 118-98. Approximately 200 fans came out for the two games, which featured halftime contests, entertainment and free food.

(From left) IU Northwest adjunct instructor for health, physical education and recreation Becky Mateja Lombardini presents an NAIA Association of Independent Institutions Player of the Week award to Lady RedHawks freshman Juliette Keller during the university's homecoming celebration on Feb. 13. Keller won that award in January. On Tuesday, IU Northwest announced that Keller had won USCAA Co-Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 9, based on her 21-point performance in the Lady RedHawks' 100-52 homecoming victory over Kuyper College. Keller set a school record with seven three-pointers in that contest. Also during homecoming, Lombardini herself was honored for her selection this year to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary Team 2009. Lombardini, a Whiting grad, was a 1984 Academic All-State Basketball Player.
