As part of this celebration of IU Northwest basketball, the Office of Student Life and Athletics will provide chili, hot dogs and hamburgers, along with entertainment and special giveaways, during the games. Tickets are $5 for IU Northwest students at $10 for non-students, and include food, drinks and admission. Contact the Office of Student Life and Athletics at (219) 980-6746 for more information.
IU Northwest is enjoying its most successful basketball season ever this year. Under the guidance of Head Coach Pete Trgovich, the men’s RedHawk squad has put together a 14-10 season that includes victories over Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central. Also, on Dec. 22, the NAIA RedHawks defeated NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky on the road in an amazing 74-73 contest.
The Lady RedHawks have been equally impressive. Led by nationally recognized freshman forward Sharon Houston, and coached by second-year Head Coach Ryan Shelton, the 16-10 women’s team has won more games this year than in any other season in their history. Houston, a Merrillville grad, has been honored multiple times by the NAIA and the USCAA for her outstanding play on both ends of the court.
On Feb. 13, the IU Northwest campus community will recognize these teams’ achievements with an exciting campus homecoming event. Northwest Indiana basketball fans are also invited to Savannah Gymnasium for food, fun, and some of the best college basketball in the Region. The Savannah Center is located at the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary, Ind.
