Lady RedHawks star Sharon Houston honored in triplicate after another outstanding week of hoops

Freshman forward named Player of the Week by NAIA, USCAA and A.I.I.

This time, she won all three at once.

Indiana University Northwest freshman phenom Sharon Houston had already won Player of the Week from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (three times), the NAIA Division II (once) and the NAIA Association of Independent Institutions (once). This week, she was named all three, after averaging 31.5 points, 21.5 rebounds and 7 blocks in two road wins for the IU Northwest Lady RedHawks last week.

Houston, whose season averages continue to rise as the year progresses, scored a career-high 38 points in a 58-55 win against Kuyper College on Jan. 9, to go with 23 rebounds and nine blocks. The next night, Houston scored 25 points and had 20 rebounds and five blocks in a 60-34 win over Grace Bible College. The 6-foot, 3-inch Merrillville grad shot 59.6 percent from the floor during the week, and the Grace game marked her third consecutive contest with 20 or more boards.

The Lady RedHawks, who are now 10-9 on the season after a 56-33 win over Andrews University on Tuesday, next play at home against IU South Bend on Saturday, Jan. 17, starting at 5 p.m.
