IU Northwest’s Sharon Houston named Female Athlete of the Week for NAIA Association of Independent Institutions

Lady RedHawks play in Indiana Tech Tournament this weekend

Indiana University Northwest forward Sharon Houston has earned national honors for the second time this season after having been named the Female Athlete of the Week for the NAIA’s Association of Independent Institutions for the week ending Dec. 8, 2008, the NAIA announced this week.

Houston, the 6-foot, 3-inch forward from Merrillville High School, scored 24 points in back-to-back contests last week. She added eight rebounds and four blocks in the Lady RedHawks’ 99-44 victory over Grace Bible College on Dec. 2, and she had 19 rebounds and four blocks in an 86-56 road loss against Trinity International University on Dec. 5.

In November, Houston was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Player of the Week.

Houston and the Lady RedHawks were 7-4 heading into this weekend’s Indiana Tech Tournament at Ft. Wayne. They play Purdue Calumet in Hammond on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
