Great Lake Sound Chorus to bring holiday melodies to campus for Dec. 2 daytime concert

Local a cappella group to perform seasonal standards in ‘barbershop-style’ four-part harmony

The holidays at Indiana University Northwest begin with song, as the Great Lake Sound Chorus, a member of Sweet Adelines International, performs “The Songs of Christmas” in the Savannah Center lobby beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2. This daytime concert is free and open to the public.

Great Lake Sound Chorus performs four-part a cappella harmony, a “barbershop” style of music that is a true American art form. Great Lake Sound Chorus is a Valparaiso-based non-profit educational organization made up of members from Lake and Porter Counties. The chorus has been performing and entertaining audiences throughout Northwest Indiana for 20 years. It was awarded second place in the small chorus category and fifth place overall in the 2003 Region 3 competition of Sweet Adelines International.

The Great Lake Sound Chorus sings under the direction of Carol Thompson. Membership is open to women 18 years of age or older who truly enjoy singing. The chorus provides entertainment at civic and private events and charitable functions.

IU Northwest is pleased once again to welcome Great Lake Sound to campus for this musical celebration of the season.
