Joe Hernandez-Kolski to bring 'Refried Latino Pride' to IU Northwest on Nov. 19 in rescheduled performance

Original September appearance was postponed due to flooding

The Indiana University Northwest Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE) will welcome Chicago native and acclaimed two-time HBO Def Poet Joe Hernandez-Kolski on Wednesday, Nov. 19, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Savannah Auditorium. Hernandez-Kolski will present his popular one-man show "Refried Latino Pride," which was rescheduled from its original Sept. 19 date due to flood closures. The doors open at 5 p.m. for this free performance, and the public is invited to attend.

Hernandez-Kolski is part of the 2008-09 Diversity Programming Series at IU Northwest. The writer, actor and spoken-word artist recently appeared on the sixth season of “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” on HBO, and he also had a role in this summer’s Will Smith blockbuster “Hancock." Hernandez-Kolski has displayed his comedic talents and unique perspective at a variety of venues, including the stage and the small and big screens, as well as at universities across the country. He has a role in an upcoming Jaime Foxx - Robert Downey, Jr. film, “The Soloist,” and he recently opened the “Say Word” Hip-Hop Theater Festival at Lehigh University with his hip-hop solo show “You Wanna Piece of Me?” Hernandez-Kolski has earned accolades for his dramatic stage work.

“Refried Latino Pride" is an invigorating mix of humor, social commentary and personal stories. Hernandez-Kolski has developed an international reputation as a significant and entertaining voice for the hip-hop generation, and IU Northwest is pleased to welcome him to Northwest Indiana for this engaging cultural performance.
