State legislative candidates to attend April 28 forum at IU Northwest

Black Student Union sponsoring event

Indiana legislative candidates in the upcoming May 6 Indiana primary election will participate in a forum sponsored by the Black Student Union at Indiana University Northwest beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Savannah Auditorium, located in the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary, Ind. The Northwest Indiana community is invited to attend this free event and meet the candidates prior to casting votes on May 6.

Twenty-nine local candidates were invited to attend Monday’s forum, including candidates from East Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Merrillville, Highland, Valparaiso, Cedar Lake, and Ogden Dunes. As of April 25, no final list of confirmed attendees was available, but many invited hopefuls are expected to attend. Candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the audience, explain their platforms, and answer questions.

IU Northwest and the BSU are pleased to welcome this year’s local candidates for the state legislature to campus for this important forum. Doors open at 5 p.m. For more information, contact the Black Student Union at (219) 980-6629.
