Indiana University Northwest is pleased to offer area high school students an opportunity to experience the university atmosphere at Academic College Experience (ACE) Day on Friday, Feb. 29. Participation in this annual event is free and is open to high school juniors and seniors.
During ACE Day, students will experience the academic atmosphere at IU Northwest by attending presentations given by university professors and participating in class discussions. They will also have the chance to consider future career options by participating in career-focused sessions with representatives from the university’s various departments and programs. At ACE Day, participants will interact with other college-bound students from across the seven-county Northwest Indiana region.
ACE Day’s series of hour-long sessions runs from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Students have their choice of three sessions throughout the morning. The first two will be academic-oriented presentations, and the third will be a career-oriented session.
Academic presentation subjects include such interesting topics as “Riding the Iron Lung: Participant Observation Among Professional Hockey Players,” “Multiple Intelligences” and “From Camelot to Spamalot: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table through the Ages.” Others include “Personal Information, Privacy, the Laws, and YOU,” “Women’s Health,” “Top 10 Justice Issues,” and “Beowulf: Medieval Men, Monsters and Movies.”
Students can also choose which career presentation they would like to attend. Choices include sessions on education, criminal justice, business, show business, and any one of a variety of health-professions programs, including dental education, radiological sciences, nursing, social work, and health information management.
Lunch will be provided for students in the Moraine Student Center at 12 p.m. There will be a small open house following lunch at which students can obtain additional information about IU Northwest programs.
ACE Day is open to groups of students from area schools and to individual students. School faculty and staff members are welcome to attend with their students.
Students may register for this event by contacting the IU Northwest Office of Admissions at (219) 980-6823, or by visiting https://www.iun.edu/~admit/seminar/registration-presentations.shtml. Advance registration is required. Check-in for ACE Day begins at 8:30 a.m. On Feb. 29 at the Savannah Center, located at 3400 Broadway in Gary, Ind.
