IU Northwest to host two holiday concerts

IU Northwest invites the community to help celebrate the holidays at a pair of inspirational seasonal concerts.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 12:30 p.m., the Munster-based barbershop quartet Calumet Corner Chorus will perform holiday tunes in their trademark a capella style. The four-part chorus includes singers from Lake and Porter Counties and south Chicagoland.

The concert is free and open to the public. It will be held in the lobby of the IU Northwest Savannah Center, 3400 Broadway in Gary, Ind. For more information, contact Susan Higgins at (219) 980-6923.

On Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2:30 p.m., IU Northwest’s Theatre Northwest will host a Christmastime performance by acclaimed St. John jazz vocalist Susan May and Chicago’s Bobby Schiff Jazz Trio.

May has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and has been profiled in the Chicago media. Her two albums, “The Rose” and “Black Coffee,” have earned May the admiration of Chicago and Northwest Indiana jazz fans and critics. The Bobby Schiff Jazz Trio is part of the Bobby Schiff Band, which has been a Chicago musical mainstay for 35 years.

Tickets are $10. The concert will be held in the Theatre Northwest auditorium at IU Northwest’s Tamarack Hall. For more information, call (219) 980-6808.
