IU Northwest to host coed cheerleading tryouts, two clinics

Indiana University Northwest will host tryouts for its 2006-07 coed cheerleading squad Sat., Oct. 21 from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. in the Savannah Gymnasium at the IU Northwest campus in Gary, Ind.

Those students interested in trying out for the squad must attend two cheerleading tryout preparation clinics to be held on Tues., Oct. 17 and Wed., Oct. 18 from 6:00 9:00 p.m. The clinics will be held in the Savannah Gymnasium and will help participants prepare their skills for the tryouts. Participants will be required to learn a floor cheer, 2-3 chants, and a short dance routine for tryouts. For tryout requirements, please visit

Pre-registration and an application are required for participation. Applications and a registration form can be completed online at Interested students must be good academic standing to participate.

The IU Northwest RedHawks Coed Cheerleading Squad is open to men and women who are IU Northwest students. Tryouts are held each fall for the corresponding season. All students who have tumbling, cheer, dance and gymnastics experience are encouraged to tryout, however previous formal experience is not required. The squad cheers at all home games for both the men's and women's basketball teams and at occasional away games and tournaments.

The deadline for registration and application is Monday, October 16.

Again, the tryout clinics will run from 6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 17 and Wed., Oct. 18 in the Savannah Gymnasium. It is strongly suggested that all people interested in trying out are present for both clinics. The formal tryouts will then run from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 21 in the Savannah Gymnasium.
