IU Northwest Alumni Association to host viewing of Day of the Dead Altars Oct. 19

Alumni invited to experience cultural exhibit, attend reception at Tamarack Hall

The Indiana University Northwest Alumni Association invites area alumni to experience the biennial cultural event "Dia de los Muertos: Day of the Dead Altars" in Gallery Northwest at Tamarack Hall on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.

The Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican celebration, and this display of traditional and contemporary-style altars provides a cultural learning experience for all who see it. The exhibit’s altars were set up by community members to honor spirits of their deceased loved ones as the Mexican holiday approaches.

After visiting the exhibit, alumni are invited to enjoy light refreshments and mingle with IU alumni. Ken Beckley, alumni association president and CEO, will be in attendance. The reception will be held outside Gallery Northwest in Tamarack.

Tamarack Hall is located at the west end of the main IU Northwest parking lot along 33rd Avenue in Gary. For more information, contact Alumni Relations Director Paulette Lafata-Johnson at (219) 980-6769.
