Celebration of Mexican heritage set for IU Northwest

Students, faculty and visitors can enjoy the flavor and atmosphere of Mexico at Indiana University Northwest on Oct. 4, as the Latino student group ALMA, the Office of Minority Studies and the Hammond Bilingual Education Program sponsor “A Taste of Atzlan/Mexico” at the Savannah Center Auditorium beginning at 5 p.m. The event includes a presentation, “Perspectives on Mexican History and Culture,” featuring several guest speakers.

“A Taste of Atzlan/Mexico” is free to the public, and families are encouraged to attend. There will be food, music, dance, and poetry. Guest speakers include Raoul Contreras, chair of the Department of Minority Studies; Prof. William Luna; and Anna Guajardo, an expert on immigration and labor policy.

“A Taste of Atzlan/Mexico” runs from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A reception for the event runs from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Participants will also have the opportunity to register to vote at a registration table that will be set up during the reception.
