The 20th annual Indiana University Northwest Gala celebration will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Avalon Manor, 3550 East Highway 30 in Merrillville. Proceeds raised from this year's Gala will support IU Northwest scholarships and the furnishing of new state-of-the-art dental labs.
Tickets are $150 and include an evening of fine wine, hors d’oeuvres, desserts. Entertainment will be provided by the Scott Pazera Quartet.
The Gala provides an opportunity to not only honor and recognize some of northwest Indiana's brightest and hardest working students, but to show appreciation to the donor organizations and individuals that contribute to IU Northwest's scholarship programs. To help fulfill the educational needs of students, the university offers nearly 130 different foundation scholarships, and awards approximately $200,000 each year.
The dental program at IU Northwest trains and educates assistants and hygienists who are sorely needed in this region. Statistics show that approximately 90% of all dentists, dental hygientists and dental assistants in northwest Indiana are graduates of Indiana University. Our program educates the dental team member to discern and manage the ethical issues of dentistry in a rapidly changing environment. Health promotion and disease prevention is also taught through organized community efforts and through the performance and delivery of oral health needs in the community, as well as the campus community.
The dental education department will soon be housed in the new Professionl/Medical Building, a two-phase $25 million-dollar facility that is already home to new nursing labs, a future health clinic, professional offices, student labs and classrooms. The new dental labs will allow patients to recieve quality dental services in a technologically advanced setting. Dental education students will have the opportunity to train for their careers using the newest technology and equipment available in their field today.
Business attire is suggested. For reservations, or for more information, please contact Cathy Tallos, University Advancement, at 219-980-6801.
