Indiana University Northwest Early Literacy Academy and WYIN Channel 56, Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations, Inc., (IPBS) have combined resources to present a free workshop entitled, “A Focus on Early Learning,” to area early childhood providers. This workshop is designed to enable them to become trainers for coworkers and parents in developmentally appropriate early childhood learning and parenting practices.
This workshop will be presented Thursday, June 30, 2005, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the IUN CHILD CARE CENTER on the campus of Indiana University Northwest, 3400 Broadway, Gary, Indiana. The child care center is located just west of Broadway on 35th Street, Gary.
Each early childhood participant attending will receive a set of children’s books, a trainer video, a trainer’s manual with training outlines for 6 mini-workshops, the materials needed to present 3 full-length workshops, and a Certificate of Attendance.
The IUN Early Literacy Academy promotes literacy development and training to Gary caregivers and parents through workshop and literacy events. The Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations, Inc., (IPBS) in partnership with the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, is working to advance the knowledge of early childhood learning through the launch of the multi-media campaign — Parenting Counts. As part of this initiative, each of Indiana’s PBS affiliates will air a series of one-minute television spots which convey easy-to-understand messages about developmentally appropriate early childhood learning and parenting practices; conduct training workshops for early childhood professionals and parents; disseminate educational resource materials to child care facilities and homes.
