The Fourteenth Annual Forum on Child Abuse and Neglect at Indiana University Northwest, which includes discussion and reports from numerous state and local officials, will take place Friday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Savannah Center Auditorium. A special ceremony honoring child abuse victims, featuring the children of the IU Northwest Child Care Center, will conclude the event.
Jane Bisbee, deputy director of the Indiana Division of Family and Children, will report first on the state’s state perspective on child abuse and neglect and report on legislation at the 2004 session of the General Assembly. She will also discuss the latest activities of Indiana’s recently established Commission on Abused and Neglected Children and their Families.
The local perspective will follow from Bruce Hillman, director of the Lake County Division of Family and Children, who will focus on the state of child welfare services in Lake County. He will provide an overview of the child welfare system and report on recent child welfare program initiatives to combat abuse and neglect.
After Hillman’s remarks there will be a panel of local officials discussing their roles in the child protection system in Lake County. This panel will include:
• Lake County Coroner David Pastrick
• Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez
• Attorney Gail Teagarden, coordinator of the Lake County Child Protection Team
• Superior Court Judge, Juvenile Division Mary Beth Bonaventura.
