Deadline approaches for IU Northwest scholarship applications

The March 14 priority application deadline is fast-approaching for IU Northwest students seeking fall 2003 scholarships.

Scholarships available include:

• Altrusa of the Dunes scholarship: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to students who have attained at least junior class standing (56 earned credits) and have at least a 2.70 cumulative grade point average. Candidates must be U. S. citizens and be a resident of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Newton, Jasper or Pulaski County. First preference will be given to female students.

• James W. Dye scholarship: Three scholarships for one-half tuition will be awarded to students who graduated from Griffith High School, have completed at least 12 credit hours at IU Northwest, and are in good academic standing.

• Peggy Gordon Elliott scholarship: One scholarship for full tuition, fees and books will be awarded to a student who will have sophomore class standing only (26-55 earned credits), have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, and have financial need.

• J. Glenn and Gladys Harris scholarship: Two scholarships for full tuition, fees and books will be awarded to students who will have junior class standing (56-85 earned credits) or above, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and have financial need.

• Jennie B. Kahn adult learner scholarship: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has earned at least 60 credit hours, has at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, and has financial need. First preference will be given to a student who is at least 25 years of age and has family responsibilities.

• Latin Hoosier hero scholarship: One $450 scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. First preference will be given to applicants of Latino heritage.

• E. G. Mintz scholarship: Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who have earned at least 50 credit hours and have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Candidates must be female and at least 25 years of age. First preference will be given to students who are raising a family and/or working while pursuing a degree.

• NIPSCO scholarship: One full tuition scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student who has at least a 2.70 cumulative grade point average. First preference will be given to a dependent of a NIPSCO employee, a minority student or a student with a disability.

• Mildred Paich scholarship: One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has reached junior status (56 credits) or higher, has at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and has a demonstrated financial need.

• Ray and Josephine Thomas scholarship: Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to students who have reached junior status (56 credits) or higher, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and have a demonstrated financial need.
