Not only will fans attending the IU Northwest fall Homecoming Celebration men’s basketball game November 15 get to meet Gary Steelhead Dane Fife, but one of them will also have a chance to win $10,000.
A pre-game alumni reception with Fife as the special guest will kick off the festivities beginning at 6 p.m. in the Savannah Center. Fife, a member of the 2002 Indiana University National Finalist Men’s Basketball Team, was the first-round draft pick for the Gary Steelheads. He will be available for pictures and autographs until halftime.
The Redhawks will go head to head against region rivals the Purdue University Calumet Lakers at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center Gymnasium. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 if wearing red and $1 for children under the age of 12.
At halftime one lucky raffle ticket owner will win a chance to complete a three-quarters-to half-court basketball throw worth $10,000. Tickets are $1 with proceeds going to support the IU Northwest Cheerleaders.
Head Coach of the Redhawks, Tom Bainbridge, said he is looking forward to the game because of the local rivalry. “We are rivals in every aspect, but it’s a good rivalry. Many of these guys played against each other in high school and it’s fun for me as a recruiter, and a fan, to see how they’ve their game has matured,” Bainbridge said.
Fife, The 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard, completed his IU career as the University’s all-time steals leader with 180 steals. “I’m ecstatic that the Steelheads got him. His leadership ability and overall talent is a tremendous asset to that team,” Bainbridge said.
