Construction will begin on the first two walls of a home during the Habitat for Humanity Kickoff on Wednesday, October 16 to support the Fall 2002 Glen Park Build project.
The kickoff will be held on the IU Northwest campus in the Quadrangle located outside Hawthorne Hall.
Each participant will have a chance to drive a nail or paint a wall in support of the project, according to Keith Kirkpatrick, executive director of the Institute for Innovative Leadership. The institute is working in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity to organize IU Northwest’s participation in building several homes near the campus.
As part of the Fall 2002 Glen Park Build, two homes are being constructed at the corner of 40th Avenue and Georgia Street during the week of Nov. 16-23. The IU Northwest community, friends, family and associates supplies general and expert labor, while raising a total of $25,000 towards the $100,000 needed for the build.
“IU Northwest is committed to helping revitalize the Glen Park community. The construction of these two homes will be an asset to this area,” Kirkpatrick said. “The leadership institute has taken on this project because we feel it’s a great opportunity for us to take a leadership role in a community focused project.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, to volunteer or to make a donation please call the Leadership Institute at (219) 981-5631.
