IU Northwest Launches New Website

IU Northwest is proud to announce the launch of its new and improved Website, After months of research, planning and preparation the new site will "go live" on Monday, September 30 during the 2002 Campus Convocation at 3:00 p.m.

Administrators, faculty, staff and students were surveyed last Fall to provide some feedback on what they felt the overall objectives of the IUN Website should be. At the top of the list, it was determined that the site should have a consistent look and feel throughout all departments and academic group pages. Another objective was easy access to timely and accurate information as well as quick links to news and events items on the homepage.

"With these goals in mind, we have designed a new site that reflects a more user friendly architecture, allowing prospective students to quickly navigate through the site to gather information in their college search," said Michelle Searer, director of marketing and communications. In addition, the overall look incorporates a user-centered design approach using campus images that illustrate the campus grounds and student life.

Another new feature includes greater emphasis on dynamic news delivery through the use of an e-publishing system allowing a more efficient method to change news content quickly.

According to campus webmaster, Kathy Horvath, "the new site gives the campus a modern face. It also clarifies the message and mission of IU Northwest and helps browsers find information quickly."

A new campus calendar has also been implemented to show all campus events that are scheduled through the event scheduler program. This automation allows each department to have their own customized calendar.

Searer states, "the web has become a vital marketing tool for colleges and universities in their recruitment efforts and it's critical that we use it as a vehicle not only to reach potential students, but also to serve the community at-large."

Other features include: online campus tour, enhanced search function on each page; people directories for faculty, staff, students and departments; and photo gallery links for each departmental page. Future enhancements will include an online speakers directory and video/audio streaming.
