IU Northwest to Host Memorial Service for Dr. Bill May

IU Northwest will hold a memorial service to honor Dr. Silas W. "Bill" May, professor emeritus on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be held outside on the north side of the Library Conference Center near the fountain. Chancellor Bruce W. Bergland, Dean of Arts and Sciences Dorothy Ige, and faculty and staff members of the Biology Department will deliver prepared remarks. In addition, any other faculty, staff, students, or friends who would like to speak about their reflections of Dr. May are invited to do so. Light refreshments (cookies and punch) will be served afterwards in the foyer of the Library Conference Center.

After almost 30 years at Indiana University Northwest in Gary's Glen Park neighborhood, May retired in December as an associate professor emeritus of biology. He had served as interim vice chancellor for Chancellor Bruce Bergland in 2000-01 and as Bergland's special assistant after that.

A scholarship/memorial fund has been established in May's name. Those wishing to make a contribution should send donations payable to the IU Foundation, c/o Jeff Lorber, University Advancement, 3400 Broadway, Sycamore Hall, Gary, IN 46408.
