Over 70 area high school students were recently honored at an Indiana University Northwest awards ceremony for their participation in Student of the Week, a collaborative of Indiana University Northwest, The TIMES and area high schools in Lake and Porter county.
The focus of Student of the Week is to cooperatively create opportunities for high school students that celebrate leadership roles by highlighting a female and male student of junior standing. The students are chosen on the basis of academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.
On May 29 Indiana University Northwest Chancellor Bruce W. Bergland and The TIMES Student of the Week Project Coordinator George Carl awarded the students with a medal and a certificate of achievement.
"I am very proud to co-sponsor an activity that recognizes high school students for their outstanding academic achievements and leadership skills, says Chancellor Bruce W. Bergland. I am particularly pleased to know that the Student of the Week participants are performing service to the region by being involved in extracurricular activities and community projects".
