In 2000, the Republic of Korea announced that its government would provide the Republic of Korea War Service Medal (ROKWSM) to eligible U.S. veterans of that conflict, or to their surviving next of kin. United Stateís veterans of the Korean War are now eligible to wear a medal initially offered to them more than 50 years ago, but never issued.
In support of the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War, the United States of America has designated Indiana University Northwest as a commemoration partner in honoring Korean War Veterans and their families. Indiana University Northwest will host an ongoing program of events and activities which identify, recognize and honor Korean War Veterans, their families, especially those who lost loved ones, and increase awareness of their contribution toward the peace and freedom enjoyed today in the Republic of Korea.
On Tuesday, April 23, IU Northwestís School of Education will host a medal ceremony to honor Korean War veterans and their families. The ceremony will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Savannah Center Gymnasium on campus. A reception will immediately follow.
