Free Income Tax Assistance Offered at IU Northwest

The Accounting and Business Students Organization (ABSO) at Indiana University Northwest is now offering free income tax assistance on campus through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) through April 12.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program provides assistance to taxpayers in the preparation of their income tax returns. Students are trained by the IRS to help the community prepare tax returns. Currently seven students and two faculty members are participating in the program. Over 70 people have already been helped and over 120 people participated in the program.

The goals of the program are to assist students in gaining practical income tax knowledge and professional experience while providing needed free service to the local community. The program will continue to be an integral part of IUNís service to its students and the region.

Participants must bring pertinent income tax information including W-2 statements, bank statements, 1099s, social security numbers, and last years return. For more information or to make an appointment, contact the ABSO office at (219) 980-6915.
