Students write book on Glen Park community stories

A group of 25 IU Northwest students are currently working on a service project entitled Glen Park Stories this semester. The students will interview people who live or work in the Glen Park area of Gary, IN about their life experiences and collectively gather research to form a book on Glen Park.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the sense of shared community between the Glen Park neighborhood and the IUN campus, to celebrate the many and varied voices of Glen Park, and to give students experience in writing for a real audience, with a real purpose. The interviews will be held at the Kennedy Branch of the Gary Public Library on Broadway Avenue.

At the conclusion of the project, a reception will be held in honor of the participants and students who made this project come alive. The reception will take place on Friday, April 19 from noon 2:00 p.m. in the Savannah Center Lobby on campus. At this time, presentations by the participants and students will take place along with the distribution of the book.

The event is free and open to the campus and community. For more information, contact Lou Ann Karabel at (219) 980-6568.
