Criminal Justice Club sponsors Child Abuse Awareness Conference

The IU Northwest Criminal Justice Club, Lambda Alpha Omicron, is sponsoring the Child Abuse Awareness Conference during April, the national child abuse prevention month.

The conference will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Savannah Center Auditorium. Guest speakers for the event include representatives from The Caring Place in Valparaiso, The lake County Court Appointed Special Advocate Program, and one of its volunteer, who is also an IUN student.

"We chose to do this for educational and informational purposes," says president of the Criminal Justice Club, Tawana Pruitt. "We want to empower the public so that they are aware of the signs, causes and preventive measures of child abuse."

Co-sponsored by Helping Young People Excel (HYPE) and Survivors Outreach Association, he conference is open to the public, area schools, and IUN students, faculty and staff.
