Indiana University Northwest announces the appointment of Michelle M. Searer as the new Director of Marketing and Communications in the Division of University Advancement. Her responsibilities will include the development and implementation of marketing initiatives and community and media relations for the university.
"I am most pleased that Michelle is on board," says Jeff Lorber, Vice Chancellor of University Advancement. "Her extensive background in marketing and research should allow us to strengthen our efforts to meet the needs of the Northwest Indiana region. Searer is a wonderful addition to our staff."
Searer comes to IU Northwest after working for Dearborn Real Estate Education, the nationís largest publisher of real estate education and training materials. Located in Chicago, Dearborn is a division of Kaplan Professional, a subsidiary of the Washington Post. Prior to her work in Chicago, Michelle worked for Creative Media Group, a marketing consulting agency and the Herald News Group in Merrillville.
An alumnus of IU Northwest with a BS degree in business administration and a current MBA student at IU Northwest, Michelle is committed to serving the university and the campus community.
"To have the opportunity to help further position the university as the premier institution for higher education in Northwest Indiana is extremely exciting and challenging," says Searer.
While attending IU Northwest as an undergraduate, Michelle served as President of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity on campus, was secretary for the student government, and advertising manager for the Northwest Phoenix newspaper.
As an undergraduate at IU Northwest, Michelle was also the recipient of the George Uzelac & Associates, Inc. Scholarship which provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $400 to a full-time Junior or Senior student in the Division of Business and Economics with a 3.3 GPA.
In her spare time, Michelle and her family enjoy dog sledding with their ten Siberian huskies, skiing and traveling.
Michelle resides in Hobart with her husband Jim and their two children, Emily and Joe.
