Nursing Dean Linda Rooda Takes On Additional Divisions

Indiana University Northwest has announced that effective July 16th, the divisions of Allied Health and Dental Education merged with the School of Nursing to form one combined unit. Dr. Linda Rooda, Dean of the School of Nursing, will serve as dean of this newly combined unit, the name of which will be finalized as soon as possible.

"This natural merger of nursing, allied health and dental education into one unit will positively impact the health care industry of Northwest Indiana, while at the same time promoting that aspect of the Shared Vision of IU Northwest which speaks to the health and well being of the seven-county region," states Dean Rooda.

During her years at IU Northwest, beginning in 1972, Rooda has held numerous appointments including coordinator, professor, and dean of the School of Nursing. Rooda has served as chair of the IU Northwest Faculty Organization, and served as co-chair of the Coordinating Committee for the Shared Vision Process for IU Northwest. She has published numerous journal articles and presented at several regional and national conferences.

"I am confident that Dean Rooda will lead the new unit not only with her customary energy and dedication, but also with exceptional creativity and competence," says Virginia Helms, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Rooda received her Ph.D. from Purdue University, MSN from Governors State University, BSN from Indiana University at Indianapolis, and an ASN from Indiana University Northwest. Her professional expertise has been recognized by several honors including the Indiana University Herman Frederic Lieber Memorial Award for distinguished teaching, the IUN Campus Founderís Day Award for Teaching Excellence and the Indiana University School of Nursing Lois C. Meier Teaching Excellence Award. She has served her community as a member of the Board of Directors of the Legacy Foundation and the Hospice of Calumet as well as the Southlake Community Mental Health Center.

"I am extremely happy that Linda has agreed to take on these additional duties. I am impressed with her commitment to IU Northwest and the Shared Vision," says Chancellor Bruce Bergland. "She has served the university well both as a faculty member and a dean. Iím sure sheíll be just as effective in these expanded duties as she has with her previous roles."
