Galloway Invents  Revolutionary Martial Arts Electronic Scoring System
As A Taekwondo Master He Knows What It Takes

Dr. Jerry Galloway, Indiana University Northwest associate professor of education and computer education coordinator recently invented a new keyboard interface, designed and built the hardware, and wrote the software for a revolutionary electronic scoring system for martial arts competition. A resident of Valparaiso, Galloway developed the scoring system to accommodate numerous requests from the industry and is now being successfully marketed internationally. After a trial test in martial arts competition tournaments in Dallas, Texas, the system has also seen sales in England, Israel and Mexico.

"The system represents a significant breakthrough in computer application, innovative design and simplicity of use," says Galloway. He also adds that the entire system is being manufactured locally in Chesterton and has become "a regular part of Indiana state-level martial arts competition.

No newcomer to the study of martial arts, Galloway is the second generation directly from the World War II founders of Taekwondo and Hapkid, and is recognized around the world as a Master Instructor. He is certified with Kukkion from the World Taekwondo Federation and holds two national bronze medals in 1994 and 1997.

"I still compete regularly and again qualified with gold medals in Indiana this year, and will compete in the USTU Championships in Cleveland," says Galloway. After 23 years of study, he was recently promoted to the rank of 5th Dan, a master of Taekwondo, and is also known for founding the Chun Tong Moo Do (traditional martial arts) style of Taekwon-Karate. He also teaches martial arts for IU Northwest physical education through the Traditional Martial Arts School in Merrillville.
