During her 16 years at IU Northwest, Ige has been involved in many campus activities and organizations including serving as chair of the Faculty Organization, as a caucus president and vice president of the National Communication Association, and as chair or member of committees such as the Promotion and Tenure committees. Ige is also considered one of the pioneers in the development of the university's Shared Vision strategic initiative. She served on the Vision Steering Committee and is currently the chair of the Shared Vision Task Force that is working together to develop a new faculty recruiting process.
"I am excited about the appointment of Dr. Dorothy Ige as IUN's Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She is in my judgment, the perfect person for the position at this time," says Chancellor Bruce Bergland. "Not only is she a respected member of faculty with accomplishments that speak for themselves, she has served in administrative positions as well. Another exceedingly important factor is that Dr. Ige is totally committed to our Shared Vision and has worked with the vision process since its inception."
With a Ph.D. from Ohio State, an MA from Central Missouri University, and BS from Southeast Missouri State University, Ige's professional experience includes many scholarly research presentations in ten countries, as well as in the United States. She has also taught at the junior high and high school levels in the U.S., and in Germany. Ige has served as speaker for many presentations and workshops and is recipient of numerous professional and community awards and honors. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Central States Communication Association and a life member of the National Communication Association.
"I am very pleased to be named as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and look forward to working with both the campus and community to further our goals for growth as a university and as members of the Northwest Indiana community," says Ige.
