Chancellor Bergland Announces New Executive Vice
Chancellor
Indiana University Northwest Chancellor,
Dr. Bruce W. Bergland recently
announced that Dr. Virginia M. Helm will assume the position of Executive
Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at the university effective July 1.
The position oversees and manages all aspects of academic affairs. Helm
comes to IU Northwest from Western Illinois
University (WIU) where she has served as Assistant Provost and Assistant
Vice President for Academic Affairs since 1995. At WIU for 25 years, Helm
has served in various roles including assistant dean and professor. In
her current role, she is responsible for negotiating and administering
the first WIU campus-based union contract with faculty and academic support
professionals. She led the university assessment activities, and worked

acquisition of furnishings and equipment for the WIU Quad Cities campus,
and produced substantial increases in enrollment and student credit-hour
production as director of WIU’s Summer School.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the newly developing
leadership team at Indiana University Northwest,” says Helm. “The chancellor
and the university have developed a strong vision statement which will
require implementation of a number of new initiatives. It will be exhilarating
to work with faculty and administrators to shape those initiatives while
serving students and the Northwest Indiana community.”

“I am equally as happy to have Virginia join us in our pursuit of the
Shared
Vision,” says Dr. Bergland. “She is assuming a critically important
position here, and I have been greatly impressed by her intelligence, wisdom
and perceptiveness.” |
