Two Local Faculty Members Named to Indiana University’s
Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching

Indiana University Northwest’s Dr. Linda Delunas of  Schererville, and Dr. Mark Hoyert of Valparaiso, were among 23 Indiana University faculty members recently named to the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET).
The special distinction is recognition of their demonstrated commitment to student learning.

Delunas is an assistant professor in the IU School of Nursing, Northwest Campus and also coordinator of clinical and community affiliations. She has a Ph.D. in nursing sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an MS and BSN from Purdue University Calumet. Delunas strongly believes in professional role modeling and student mentoring.

“The thing I like most about teaching is the opportunity to mentor students into the professional role,” says Delunas. “I really love the profession of nursing, and feel that teaching and mentoring students gives me the opportunity to ensure perpetuation of the nursing profession.  I also believe that every student wants to succeed but many aren’t sure how to do so. Mentoring helps provide students with the tools needed for success.”

An experimental psychologist, Hoyert serves as associate professor and chair of the department of psychology at IU Northwest. He earned both a Ph.D. and MA in psychology from Emory University, and a BA in history and BS in psychology from the University of Maryland. He actively encourages student participation in his experiments and many of his students have earned co-authorship on his projects.

“My students bring an enormous wealth of information and experiences with them to class,” says Hoyert. “I enjoy interacting with them, sharing their experiences, and helping them to organize and analyze those experiences in new ways. In this way, we all grow.”

Both Delunas and Hoyert will be honored along with 21 other Indiana University FACET recipients at the Annual FACET Retreat near Bloomington next month.
